Excuse Me??
Irisha gently picked her way along the rocks, looking for a spot on the beach to sit and... well... she didn't know. She hadn't been to this beach in years - it was closer to her home town than she'd like. But tonight was peaceful, the waves were gentle, and the sun setting slowly felt calm and familliar. It had been a very long day ashore, and while Irisha would usually be holed up on the ship right now, she decided today was the day to be brave.
It would have been years by now. This was the place she knew - she'd seen a glimpse of who she would truly become. She helped a soul cross over as he told her there were more out there, hopeless. But she knew she could help - and she would. She is.
Lost in her thoughts of the last time she was here, Irisha came to a wide stretch of sand, soft beneath her hooves. Out of memory, she stopped. Blinking back to the present, she scanned around her. She felt her hair stand on end slightly in anticipation, but there was nothing - no wandering souls for tonight. She was safe to take a break here and watch the sunset, leaving her duties in the back of her mind.
She sat down, legs shaking slightly, wondering if she should have asked for a crewmember to join her. Argo would have come, no questions asked, and let a comfortable silence fall between them. Killian would have loved this beach. Moth - little Moth would have happily joined her. Irisha took in a deep breath, feeling the tension build up in her chest. She held it a moment, then let her eyelids close as she released a slow, heavy breath. She focused her mind on the current space instead. She pressed her hooves into the sand beneath her, feeling the soft grains touch her pasterns. She took in another breath, smelling the sea air. On the shore, the scent was different - she was used to the heavy, ever-present air on the open sea. This scent - this was nice. It had hints of vegitation, a little bit of the scent of nighttime...
Her thoughts wandered again, this time at the scent. She remmebered the first time she had come here, as a teenager. She and Asce had a long day of travel, going nowhere - well, going anywhere else but that forsaken temple. The pair stumbled on the beach by accident, expecting a harbour or the town they had been directed towards - but the vast, expansive waters called to Irisha. She ran to them, gleefully, ready to splash at the water's edge. But when she looked back, Asce hadn't moved. He was wide-eyed. Irisha could feel the fear creep in the air... They did not share the same love for the water.
I still wish he were here...
The water - the sound of it brought her back to the moment. The ocean waves sounded kind tonight. As if they sensed her fear and discomfort, and wanted to lull her back to calm. And she did feel calm, all of the sudden, as she listened to the sound of the waves. They had a melody, one she'd never really heard before. She swayed with it, enjoying its sound. It felt familiar, but foreign - like the sea was really reaching out. A song, just for her.
Irisha's ears searched around, suddenly finding the source to be less the ocean as a whole than something in it. Confused, she snapped open her eyes and stood, eyes searching for the spot she'd just heard the song. Her gaze passed over it for a moment, but then it moved - an enivi? This far out? She blinked to clear her vision and squinted, but it was already diving back under. It didn't resurface - but at that distance, it should have.
Uh... what the heck was that?
I'm still bad at titles... hope everyone else is enjoying the event!
